The Last Grape Soda

Sometime in early May, I made a horrible purchase at our local Price Chopper. Although it will forever be known as "the nasty soda", the good folks at Pepsi called it Grape Slice ONE. This 12 ounce Splenda-sweetened-can-o'-crap is:

"Sugar Free"
"Calorie Free"
"Caffeine Free"

Sadly, the soda was not taste free as well.

Just to give you a 'taste' of how bad this drink is; I'll point out that even c-man, a lover of all fruit sodas refused to take more than a single sip. Friends of ours that regularly purchase off-brand fruit sodas and claim no brand loyalty grimaced at the flavor and happily dumped nearly full cans on my lawn when prompted.

The closest (edible) products I can compare the flavor to are those nasty purple "dino-flavored" tablets left in the Flintstone chewable vitamins bottle at the end of a summer. When I was a child, I always thought that the dino-vitamins were actually intended to be dog vitamins - but had been added to my Flintstones bottle in a strange packaging mishap.

The original fridge pack contained 12 cans - I'm just now finishing the last one as I type this. You may ask why I didn't just throw them out with T's rotting Birthday bouquet? I can only say that it is somehow (to me at least) extremely wrong to put a full can of soda in the trash can. After giving up on my plan to offer "the nasty soda" to neighborhood children and visiting members of our home group (fearing violent reprisals); I embarked on a personal quest to finish the 4 remaining cans over the holiday weekend.

I'm one day late - but the evil has departed.

I'm just guessing that you'll buy it again thinking that you liked it because it will be forever etched in your memory. I wonder if you'll drink them all then or let it water the lawn some more!

I'll have to remember not to pick that up. :)

There aren't too many types of pop that I won't drink. I don't care much for Mountain Dew, but I'll drink it. Also, when I was in high school Josta was kind of popular, but I thought it tasted like Bubble Yum with fizz. I was willing to choke that down as well.

I wander if I would be enough of a match for Grape Slice ONE.

I consider how much I paid for the soda before throwing it out.

Welch's is the best!

I actually liked the Flinstone vitamins. I wouldn't want to drink a can of them though.

I am curious now! I have been trying the different diet sodas (w/or w/o splenda) and I am curious to know how bad it was. If you buy another 12 pack save one for me.

There aren't many diet products here and very few caffeine free. I know people say what's the point, but I like flavor sometimes and not just water. There is something here called gaseosa (or casera is a brand name). At first I didn't like it, but now I've got a taste for it. It is fizzy water with a hint of lemon and maybe a hint of sweetness but no calories. It's definitely grown on me...I don't put wine in mine like many spaniards do.
