I realize that I'm coming into this really late in the game - but I'll still post anyway. If you didn't see Dust's post "Get Real", you should read it first.
I've agree with T that Dust's idealized "realist" is actually a blend. When I say blend, I am referring to one of those ubiquitous quadrant models that rate the participant in 4 categories and indicate where you tend to fall out compared to others.
For this example we'll call the quad R.I.P.O (Realist - Idealist - Optimist - Pessimist)
This is most often done as a way to increase communication and effectiveness by helping you see where others fall into the continuum - thereby giving you context for their perspective. The very fact that Dust's definition of a realist shows a blending of styles indicated that he is (or at least aspires to be) a realist.
In our quadrant analysis, I would expect him to rate with a high pessimism score (followed closely by realist). He would score rather low in the idealism section and have very few points in the optimistic quadrant at all (where he places little credibility). All of these indicators help to provide clues about how Dust perceives "creativity" (an idealized trait for Forrest that could be placed in some other quadrant model when contrasted with "structured").
I'll try to come up with another quad for Forrest ..... ummm ..... C.S.I.E. (Creative - Structured - Introvert - Extrovert). It really isn't difficult, and goes to show how little value a consultant really brings other than getting everyone in the room to try to think about the other guy when working together. A model just helps explain difference in an objective way. "Objective" is of course on of my idealized descriptors; anyone want to take a crack at a quad that might describe me???
Take 5 minutes and try it. Steven Covey made several million on his. Then again, he wrote a book too.

what quad am I dear?!? BTW, I thought of you when reading Drew's blog and knew you would talk to the quad thing! You are predictable sometimes! But I still like the way your brain works.
You know, I was kind of thinking about a quad when I posted that.
The Liberatarian website has something similar where you fill out a survey then they plot your ideology. Of course it always slants to their party so the test is slightly flawed, but the idea is still an interesting way of looking at things.
I'll have to think about what your quad would look like. Perhaps something with authors (Douglas-Blume-etc-etc)?
Aaahh! How Sweet! She loves you for your mind and not your money! ;-)
I can't believe out of all these years, I have NEVER heard of the "quad"!! Guess I will have to make it back to OPK for another weekend trip soon!
Dash, I see you as somewhat optimistic, with T keeping you grounded in reality. You do have a creative side but the creativity has a structure. Which is why T can predict your quad thing. Objectivity also seems very important to you.
You pegged Dust right on the money. Dust has kept me grounded in reality and I am thankful for it. I think I have changed with his influence. I don't use my rose colored glasses anymore. (to quote a line from T)
So RIPO wasn't "rest in peace Obewan"?
I don't no to much about the quad thing, but I am a little bit familiar with personality test. And with those I tend to roll my eyes. My theory is that with those test I could have a different result any given day. It all depends on my mood. I see the patterns in the questions and where it could lead you as far as your personality. If one doesn't like the person they are turning out to be they can answer on an ideal of who they would like to be. The worst is when people like to tell you about their personality results because they like the discription they got and they want you to know how cool they are.
forrest,
What in the heck are you talking about?
-Clearing
I have no clue!
I am of the Solopsist/Existential School. Solopsist meaning everything exists in my head. The existentialist part of me allows me to experience new aspects of my personality - also known as Dust/Clearing/T/etc... I am having fun (Add optimist) OF course, the other area of quadrant would be Deviant Attention Hog. This may make me (and all of "you" other me) sociopathic - but we shouldn't care....
Darkwin,
You sound like a person I once saw who stated to me, "There are over a hundred of us in here and one of us wants to kill me." This person then proceded to completely change voice patterns, facial expressions, and demeanor as different ones came to the surface expressing their views on the subject.
I do the personality test stuff occasionally. Being a pessimist, though, I tend to sabotage my answers so that the test says I am something I don't want to be. :)
Doc, that patient would be more than a little weird.
Dust,
I do that too! I sabotage my answers.
But I do it to be funny, so people have no clue who I am. Once you figure out the pattern of questioning, if you answer each one equally your dot will land right in the middle of the quads. It is alway interesting to hear the explaination for that personality.
I enjoy the personality tests. I see the pattern but choose to answer truly to see how it turns out because I learn more about me usually. Perhaps I don't need to be a euphemism to my peers.
BTW, I'm a lion, otter. Or what was the other quad from the 80s? Phlegmatic...etc?
Roaming, I am a beaver/golden retriever. Dust is also beaver/golden retriever. This is with us answering the questions honestly and not sabotaging them. I think these quizzes are fun to do. I don't ever try to brag about what I am. I like to know what other people are because it gives me an insight into how they think.
I like to share what I am for the same reasons that Golden and Roam do, it's fun. I also like to get an idea of how others think/communicate depending on the quad.
I'm Choleric mostly. The other 3 are Phlegmatic, Sanguine and Melancholy in that quad. Chad and I took it in college and again a few years after we were married and both shared Melancholy as our second highest, I believe he was phlegmatic?
I don't remember what I was with the lion/otter/retriever/beaver test. It's been too long. Maybe I should try to find it online and take it again?!
Thanks to everyone for making this the most commented to post on the dash board.
If you read this, I will publicly acknowledge your devotion to open thought and communication.....that and $1.50 will get you a cup of cofee at Homers.
