Books

T and I are rearranging and cleaning out our office to be able to handle the new arrivals, so we've been going through the stuff that we don't use very often to determine what should stay and what should go. We typically use the 6 month rule - if you haven't touched it for more than 6 months and can't reasonably explain why you still need to keep it ... it goes.

There were some easy decisions; like keeping my collection of C.S. Lewis and Tolkien related paperbacks. None of these are nice enough to go on the "fancy" bookshelves in the living room, but I still read / reference them from time to time. T didn't seem to have any problem with throwing out a few old Mary Kay instructional binders (they were already empty). Still, there were some hard calls - which brings me to my post for today.

It physically bothers me to throw books out, so even though my 5-inch reference on telecommunications is horribly out of date - I just don't want to part with it. We have a large trash bag of college textbooks like Anthropology, Abnormal Psychology, & Russian History; lots of Business texst too: Human Resources, Sales Force Management, Marketing etc. There are many more .... including a nifty 2-Volume History of the Assemblies of God. If you're looking to add some heft to your bookshelf and would like to rescue some of these books - I'll be happy to send them on their way at no charge.
ACT NOW!!!!
... oh - by the way, I've got a really creepy (somewhat misogynistic) copy of "Mars / Venus in The Bedroom" that someone gave T in a big stack of books. 21 and older on that one.

Dust and I qualify for the 21 and older Mars book. :) It might be funny to read after the both of you have talked about it recently.

Do I hear MOPS garage sale?

I went through our office bookshelves about a month ago. I never throw books away, but I will donate them. I found some paperback books I read in 5th/6th grade and thought N. might be interested in reading them. I have no problem throwing away magazines though. I threw a years worth of GuidePosts away.

That two volume of the AG is out of print. You might want to donate it to the church library or give it to some poor soul who is trying to get certified. They are sending photo copies of the book to people. I too can't throw away books and donate them to Good Will even as a last resort. Those big books that are out of date...T will kill me...I always think I could drill holes in them and paint them to look like a cool old book put a rod through the stack and make a cool table. Though, I never actually do it. I just collect the books. Well, I did.

I actually considered the MOPS garage sale (except for the bedroom book). I was sure that if I couldn't find a reason to hang on to those textbooks; nobody else would either.

Then some poor MOPS volunteer .. or her husband ... would end up lugging them to the curb anyway. I'll drag anything that isn't spoken for by Thursday night myself.

Good idea Roaming, I'll check to see if the church has the AG history books. T and I got them as graduation presents from Evangel. She threw hers out almost immediately.

Call me sentimental, but the books are even blue-green like the Boonvile Vatican :-). Maybe they are out of print so they can gear up for the 100th aniversary edition.

The table isn't a bad idea, but I think Dash would prefer the trash getting them to drilling holes in them!

I can trash a book. I have no problem with that. I see it as doing a fellow "you want THAT in my home!?" person a wonderful service! I know I'm alone on this one with this group, but oh well.

Don't get me wrong, I still like a good book and I'm happy dash has his collection, I just want to keep it limited to old antique types vs shiney new ones noone cares about! Most of the ones we're getting rid of (probably the garage sale for mops) will be ones that jadee gave me from her college days. I thought it would be cool to have them, and then I realized I'll never read them...so the coolness went away! (Sorry Jadee!)

Golden, are you sure you're over 21? I'll have to see ID first!

Do I have to look over 21?, 'cause I might have problems there : )

Dust and I got Charles Swindoll books from Walther Hall for graduating. The business dept. gave me an ink pen. Should I be glad we didn't get the A/G history book? : )

yep. But you can still have them......

OH MY! Let me save ya'll the time and tell you to just throw away that Mars & Venus book....obliviously, I am divorced now....so its already TRASH!!! LOL!

I didn't say you gave it to me! Besides you said you never read it...and from what I have scanned that would be accurate....or you would have burned it! LOL

LOL! I know, I know! And from what it sounds like...I would have done like you said.

I think that I found much better resource and help in the "Praying" books...

I'd say we alrady have way too many out of print textbooks to want even more. Well, actually Anthropology sounds interesting, but I am sure Golden wouldn't want me clogging up bookshelf space with it. :)
